Combina Dance Co. predstavlja:

KRIA'T SHMA

Kombina Dance Co. presents; "KRIA'T SHMA"* a religious piece of a non-religious person Choreography, video and set design: Amir Kolben Costumes: Ayelet Yaffe Lighting: Sh ai Yehudai "Kria't Shma" deals, from three different points of view, with the ever deepening gap between being an Israeli and being a dew in Israel's contemporary reality, Omanut and Emuna-Art and Belief- which in Hebrew stem from the same linguistic root, originate also from similar psychic sources. "Kria't Shma" is a search for these sources, and it tries to find out what can be created through the seemingly impossible meeting between the traditional and the contemporary. If god is a certain border, "Kria't Shma" is a re-approach to it. This production uses religious and traditional Jewish sources, such as cantor singing, prayers, and music that was composed to biblical psalms. "Kria't Shma" is a multi-media performance that includes dance, video projections (live and recorded), poetry reading and live music. The section "Kria't Shma" was premiered in the Israel Festival 98' and praise by Yedio't Ahronot: "A Hit!" "The greatness of this piece is that it succeeds to move and excite me with the use of religious materials even though I am a non-believer." (Miri Krimolovsky- T.V. channel 1). Kombina Dance Co. is a contemporary professional dance company, that was established in Jerusalem in 1995 by its' director Amir Kolben. The company incorporates in its' performances several different art forms and media, such sa dance and theater, live and recorded music, large screen video projections and computer animation. Kolbens' company toured successfully many European capitals such as Vienna, Moscow, Helsinki, Prague and others. The latest full evening performance of the company was "The Hamlet Machine" by Amir Kolben, based on the famous playwright Heiner Mueller's play ofthat name. This piece uses Shakespearean themes in order to portray the very essence of reality in Israel. Sections from that piece were staged lately in Rotterdam, Holland. Another piece in the repertory of the company is "G is L-2" by Kolben, which was created simultaneously with the Kombina Dance Co. in Jerusalem and with Szeged Contemporary Ballet in Hungary, where its' premiere took place on June 1996. This full evening performance deals with dancers' stage and back stage life through themes from the well known classical ballet "Giselle". The company is a nonprofit organization supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Jerusalem Foundation, and the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance. *The name "Kria't Shma" is called after the very important prayer, that should be said twice a day by every religious Jew. However, in the Hebrew writing there is a "mistake" which makes it mean "tearing off" of the prayer and it also conveys the religious tradition of tearing ones clothes at a morning ceremony.
