ACTORS' WORKSHOP MICHAEL CHEKHOV

WORKSHOP The Michael Chekhov Actors’ Workshop organized by Bitef is presenting fundamental principles of Michael Chekhov Technique. These are щег Brothers techniques ie. four fundamental principles of any art (Beautv, Simplicity, Foma and Entity), four elementary types of movement (Modelling, Floating, Flying, Radiation) ana techniques of Incorporation/Embodymenc. Through discussion about the very Technique other important elements lake Arhetie, Archetypal gestures, Psychological gestures, Atmosphere, Imaginary Bodies, Role Composition etc. shall also be presented. GOAL The workshop goal is to bring qualified professors - MICHA members to introduce acting technique of Michael Chekhov to young students (actors, directors, playwrights) and professional theatre artists. This would be a contribution to further development of theatre practice and education in countries which are not familiar with Michael Chekhov Technique. There are centres for practicing Michael Chekhov Technique throughout the world - in London, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Washington, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Russia, Austria, Holland, Israel, Japan, Croatia MICHAEL CHEKHOV TECHNIQUE What is revelation and what are the central elements in the Chekhov Technique? Whatever you want to know about the character you are playing you will be able to find it easily - not through extensive intellectual analysis (table work) but through a series of physical techniques. A the reason for that is the profound connections that exist between the moving body of the actor and his/her imagination. A gesture is a psychology. An actor imagines with his/her body. The inner lire of the images and not the tiny experimental resources of the actor should be elaborated on stage ana shown to the audience. The acceptance of this independent world of imagination, the ability to penetrate through the outer appearances of the vision to its inner, fiery life, the habit of waiting actively until the image is right, brings the artist to the verge of discovering new and hitherto hidden things. “An actor imagines with his/her body. He cannot avoid gesturing or moving without responding to his/her own internal images. The more developed and stronger the image, the more it stimulates the actor to physically incorporate it with his/her body and voice.“ MICHA The Michael Chekhov Association MICFIA is a nonprofit international organization that links the artistic vision Michael Chekhov created with the work of actors, teachers and directors of today. MICHA aims to add a much needed dimension to current methods of acting training. MICHA hopes to train a new generation of practitioners chat will incorporate Chekhov's psychophysical approach into their acting technique.

The work of Chekhov affords the actor access to resources within himself that are based not merely on personal experience (as they are in most cases) but on the actor's imagination and physical life which unblock and enhance actor's creativity. Actors and teachers have long been limited by their own learning experiences; approaches apart from the ' method' have been largely inaccessible in numerous univerisities and conservatories. However, many institutions are now interested in training that extends beyond naturalism and are actively looking for broader acting alternatives. MICHA aims at providing teachers and students with a new stimuli that will work towards revitalizing their craft. WORKSHOP TEACHERS Teachers of International MICHA Workshop in Belgrade Scott Fielding, Director of the Michael Chekhov Actors Studio in Chicago, USA, Suzana Nikolić, Artistic Director of Performing Arts Studio Etra in Zagreb, Croatia SCOTT FIELDING Scott Fielding is the Director of the Michael Chekhov Actors Studio Chicago and the Artistic Director of Alchymia Theatre in Chicago. He is a member of New York's Actors' Ensemble. He frequently teaches independent workshops in Europe and South America as well as in Chicago and across US. For Alchymia Theatre and the Stanislavsky Theatre Studio, he most recendy directed Gertrude Stein-Ifyou had three husbands. Other Alchymia directing credits include: - A Masque of Reason (Robert Frost), Flood (Gunter Grass), Rosmersholm (Ibsen), The White Princess (Rainer Maria Rilke), For the Actors ' Ensemble he last directed Painting Churches (Tina Howe). He also adapted and directed Dandelion Wine (Ray Bradbury), The Hour Glass (W.B.Yeats), The Path of Return (T.N.Hahn), The Smile at the Foot of the Ladder (Henry Miller). In Europe, he directed The Curve (T.Dorst) and The Souls Awakening (Rudolf Sterner). As an actor, Scott Fielding appears in Horse Country (C.J. Hopkins) at Alchymia Theatre. In New York, he has played at Off and Off-Off Broadway theatres including Semuel Beckett Theatre, Harold Clurman Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, American Theatre for Actors... SUZANA NIKOLIĆ Suzana Nikolic is a graduate of Academy of Dramatic Art, University of Zagreb. She was a fullboard scholar at NYU - Tisch School of Arts, Graduate Acting Program. Her current position at the Academy of Dramatic Art is Assistant Professor and Vice Dean for International Relations. She is a founder and Artistic Director of Performing Arts Studio Etra. Her acting credits include theatre performances, feature films, radio and TV serials. She is an award winning actress. She organized a series of international workshops most of them concerning the Michael Chekhov Technique.
