Dva vodeća srpska pozorišna festivala, jedan medunarodni i drugi nacionalni, organizuju ove godine zajednički projekat; Sterijino pozorje na Bitefu. Okosnica projekta je 15. Medunarodni simpozijum pozorišnih kritičara i teatrologa, trijenalna tradicionalna manifestacija koju Sterijino pozorje organizuje, u saradnji s Međunarodnim udruženjem pozorišnih kritičara (lATC/AICT), duže od pola veka.

Two leading Serbian theatre festivals, one international and one national, are in a joint project this year: Sterijino Pozorje Festival at Bitef. The core of the project is 15th International Symposium of Theatre Critics and Theatrologists, a triennial traditional event which has been organized by Sterijino Pozorje in cooperation with International Association of Theatre Critics (lATC/AICT) for over a half a century now. At the same time, it is the oldest and one of the most widely acknowledged events supported by lATC. For the first time in its history, the Symposium is not organized during Sterijino Pozorje but in September. The underlying reason for that is to let it, on the occasion of 15th anniversary, receive the attention by the professional audience and the media, and to realize the cooperation between Sterijino Pozorje and Bitef which has been wanted for a long time. This cooperation offers an invaluable opportunity to the participants of the Symposium to see at least one part of Bitef, which is one of the most relevant events in the world of theatre, whereas Bitef gets about twenty guests, critics and theatrologists who will report about its performances in their media and professional periodicals. The Symposium will be held in Novi Sad, 17-18th September, and on 18th its participants arrive in Belgrade where they will stay until 20th and have an opportunity to follow the Bitef programme. The meeting point of Sterijino Pozorje and Bitef is an international panel “Critic is Present - at International Theatre Festivals”, which will be held in Belgrade on 19th September. 19 th SEPTEMBER, 17:00 - PANEL DISCUSSION: CRITIC IS PRESENT - AT INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVALS The discussion will raise some of these questions: which criteria should be employed by critics informing on a festival abroad: do they inform about local context, how do they determine the position of the audience, between the expectancy, sensibility and the knowledge of their own viewers/listeners/ readers on one hand, and the cultural individuality of the milieu where a festival or a performance is taking place, on the other? How do they approach a performance coming from a theatre tradition (and culture as a whole) significantly different from their own. in a language they might not speak, in a different conditions of reception: under those circumstances, are they more ready to engage in a free exchange with the performance on the levels of energy, emotions and associations than they are
