Битеф

bilo je gostovanje belgijske predstave O/imp u režiji Jana Fabra, kao i direktan prenos predstave na Trećem programu Radio-televizije Srbije, u trajanju od dvadeset betid sata. Pored određenih ideoloških reakcija pozorišnog sveta, kao i onih koje su se odnosile na estetske kvalitete Olimpa, predstava je isprovocirala veoma intenzivnu i za Bitef do tada neviđenu društvenu debatu (ako je tako možemo nazvati) na temu golotinje na sceni i teievizijskim ekranima. Rasprave o Bitefu vodile su se u Skupštini Republike Srbije, na stranicama žute štampe, ali i po kafanama, prodavnicama, pa čak i beogradskim cvećarama. Provokacija je uspela...

Godinu dana kasnije, od Bitefa se očekuje da to ponovi. Ove godme, medutim, nema Olimpa. Tema festivals mnogima be se übiniti manje atraktivnom. Ali ona je, po našem dubokom uverenju, neuporedivo provokativnija od rasprave o tome da li je u redu da glumci „goli skabu po sceni". Makar na Bitefu, tu dilemu smo razrešili pre pedesetak godina, Za sve one koji nikad nisu bili na Bitefu, a prošle godine su imali mišljenje o tome šta se na njemu dešavalo, bilo bi neuporedivo važnije da razmisle o svetu u kome žive, da određene globalne fenomene sagledaju u odnosu na društvo u kome se svakoga dana bude, i da ga kriticki sagledaju. I u tome je glavna provokacija 52. Bitefa. Dali možemo, proubavajubi određene umetnibke i politibke pojave u globalnom kontekstu, da shvatimo društvo u kome živimo, uporedimo ga s nebim drugim i zauzmemo stav? Dali je realno da be se. ove godine, takva rasprava buti po beogradskim cvebarama? Nismo baš sigurni, ali vredi pokušati...

quite as direct. To say that what goes on at the festival has always been the topic of interest for the broad social community is ambitious to say the least.

And yet, last year Bitef managed to provoke reactions much stronger than the usual ones. The reason was the Belgian production Mount Olympus directed by Jan Fabre lasting twenty-four hours and its live transmission by the Third Channel of Radio Television Serbia. Apart from certain ideological reactions of the theatre world and those concerning the aesthetic qualities of Mount Olympus, the production provoked a very intense and, for Bitef, as yet unheard of public debate (if we can call it that) about the nudity on stage and television screens. Bitef was discussed in the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, in yellow press and in pubs, shops and even florists’. The provocation succeeded...

A year later, Bitef is expected to repeat it. But - there is no Mount Olympus this year. The theme of the festival will seem less attractive to many. It is, we are confident, incomparably more provocative than the question whether it is ail right for the actors to “romp naked on the stage”. We resolved this dilemma some fifty years ago, speaking on Bitef at least. For all those who have never attended the festival and last year voiced their thoughts of what was going on there, it would be much more important to ponder the world they live in, to perceive some global phenomena in relation to a society they wake up to every day and to analyse it critically. And that is the chief provocation of the 52 nd Bitef. Can we, studying certain artistic and political phenomena within the global context, understand the society we live in, compare it to something else and take a stand? Is it realistic to expect that this kind of discussion will be heard in Belgrade florist shops this year? We are not quite sure but it’s worth a try...
