truly to know nature, feparate and removed from God, as it is to know God in the wifdom of this world, or truly to worfhip him, with a heart removed far from him.
What hopes was left after the miferable fall of man, when God curfed the earth for man’s fake, but only the de{cent of God, or the incarnation of Jefus Chrift; that infpoken Word of life, in order to a happy reftoration. and renovation? For as all things were made by this eternal Word, fo all things are upheld by it: This is the healer of our wounds and repairer of our breaches. -
This Word is declared by Mofes, Deut. xxx. 14.. and by the apoftle Paul, Rom. x. 8. to be ‘ near us, « even in our hearts and in our mouths, « that we need not fay, Who hall af« cend into heaven, or defcend into «« the deep to fetch it.” This was the rock in the wildernefs, 1 Cor. X- 4+ the fire in Ezekiel, chap. i. 4. the fone with feven eyes upon it in Zechariah,
