Abstract: In 1866, when the first stamps of Serbia with the portrait of Prince Michael were introduced, 43 post offices were in operation. Accor-ding to regulations stamps on letters had to be canceled with PAID, re-gistration was indicated with a boxed cancel not touching the stamps and a CDS with the name of the post office was put in the right top of the letter. Soon after, the regulations were not followed strictly anz more, and stamps cancelled with CDS can be found. Until today letters and cancelled stamps from only 36 post offices have been found. In the literature there are no systematic references about the mode of camcelling at varios post offices during this period. The cancels known so far are summarised in Table 1 and an attempt of their valuation is given in Table 2.
